This track from Bombay Dub Orchestra is called 'Journey' and is off of their recently released album - 3 Cities.

Here is some information from the producers about the concept behind 3 Cities:

Step inside the sound of 3 Cities, Bombay Dub Orchestra's sophomore release, and experience the crossroads where Mumbai, Chennai, and London musically meet. Since the release of their self-titled debut, the name Bombay Dub Orchestra (consisting of composer/producers Garry Hughes and Andrew T. Mackay) has built quite a reputation. From main-stage performances at the UK's Big Chill Festival and Djing across the globe, scoring feature films to remixing such world-renowned artists as Bob Marley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Bebel Gilberto, fans and critics have been eagerly awaiting their next album. For 3 Cities, both Hughes and Mackay traveled to Mumbai and Chennai to record with the cities' premier musicians and vocalists before returning to London to mix the album. 3 Cities is where their cinematic soundscapes meet Indian Classical and electronica featuring a huge cast of over 75 musicians.

Ernest Gonzales

Ernest Gonzales produces emotional, genre-blurring electronic music. I couldn't come up with a better bio than he has written for himself, so please read the following:

(Ernest on Ernest)
"My name is Ernest Gonzales and I am a Hyphenated American aka Hispanic, Chicano, Latino, or Mexican - Whatever you want to call it. I grew up next door to the Alamo, but my Spanish is muy pequito. I am the only child of an electrician father and a Home Depot customer service rep mom. Latch-key only child = video games, drawing trees, making bow and arrows, too much MTV, and pizza pockets. Somehow in between engineering camps I decided to go to art school. During that time I used extra scholarship money to buy my first drum machine.

See kids it does pay off to make good grades. All this leads to music production. I have no plans on making any raggaeton beats. So I leave you, Ernest Gonzales, a Hyphenated American making music. Hip Hop, Experimental, Electronic - whatever you want to call it. My album, "While on Saturn's Rings", came out in October of 2007, features a remix by Daedelus, reached #8 on the CMJ RPM Charts, and is good to do yoga or make out to. Maybe both at the same time if you're a freak. My music will change the world but don't take my word for it...I'm just trying to sell it to you so I can pay some bills."

I want to share a couple of his songs with you and I encourage you to purchase his album if you like his music.

Son Lux

Son Lux is a music producer in NYC who makes some beautiful, lush music. Upon first listening I can compare his music to that of Thom Yorke / Radiohead and DJ Shadow. Very understated, yet powerful all at the same time. Please enjoy these songs:

Some Dub choons from Resi

I discovered Resi while browsing for some free music over @ Download.com. They have a ton of stuff to stream, but then some artists also allow you to download some of their songs. Since this blog is pretty new, I was looking for some music more on the slow side of the BPM scale, and when I listened to his self-branded "space dub" I was sold.

Resi hails from The Netherlands, and makes many different genres of music besides dub. On his profile it says that he plays guitar, bass, drums, percussion and didge, so he is much more than just a studio wizard. The songs posted below are part of an upcoming full length album that is due out in December.

Resi - Februari Moon

Resi - Galactic March

Resi - August

Also, stop by Resi's page on MySpace and show him some love!

The X-Files movie theme remixed by UNKLE!

That's right. UNKLE has remixed the theme for the X-Files movie which comes out next weekend. So how can you not enjoy this song? It contains elements of the original theme song from the television show, and manages to make it sound even more grandiose. UNKLE did a great job and you are going to like this remix.

Dubstep and Hip-Hop

I received a couple of tracks recently that I think people are going to like.

The first is a Dubstep track from Schlachthofbronx - a trio of DJs and producers from Germany.

Schlachthofbronx - Fatthing (Dubstep remix)

Visit Schlachthofbronx on MySpace.

This next track is a hip-hop mashup track from DeviousOne - a hip-hop and drum-n-bass producer / DJ from Toronto. This is a mashup of the Instrumental from "This Is Why I'm Hot" with the acapella from "How High".

He Can Jog

He Can Jog (aka Erik Schoster) is a producer that makes ambient / glitch / minimal electronic music. I found He Can Jog as I was looking for electronic music videos on Vimeo and found this:

Middlemarch Tour '08 Promo Video from erik schoster on Vimeo.

I really liked his production and composition style so I headed over to the He Can Jog website and found some more music and info.

Here are links to a couple of the free tracks from He Can Jog:

He Can Jog - Acorn Spectrum / Chunky Squirrel :: this track has a nice minimal beat, a splash of white noise and some nice synth work

He Can Jog - Last Car Ride (feat. Noah Wark) :: this track starts out with a snippet that feels like the song isn't ready to start, then the beat kicks in. Once we establish the pacing, then Noah comes in and drops some rhymes - a very pleasant surprise. So I guess you could call this minimal abstract hip-hop? Whatever you want to call it, I think you'll enjoy it.

He Can Jog has released music on Audiobulb Records, Fork Series Records, Hippocamp, Labrabbit Records and Famous for 15MB.

An Introduction

Downtempo Chronicles is a companion blog to Dancefloor Mayhem. Downtempo Chronicles will explore the vast realm of the slower-tempo variations of electronic music.

These genres have many names, but can all be captured under the downtempo umbrella. Some of the genres we will share with you on this blog include: trip-hop, abstract hip-hop, acid jazz, ambient, chillout, jazz fusion, r&b and we'll even sprinkle in some pop. While the music on Dancefloor Mayhem seeks the shaking of your bootimus maximus, Downtempo Chronicles will provide you with the soundtrack for the drive home, the pre-funk, the lounge, the poolside and the office.

For this blog, we are inspired by a wide range of producers, from DJ Shadow and The Orb to Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. So sit back, relax and enjoy the music.
